Internationally known as the 1st generation Suzuki Alto.
Suzuki Mehran hit the roads in 1989, launched as a locally built version of the
2nd-gen Suzuki Alto (SS80).
It was assembled at Pak Suzuki’s Karachi plant and replaced the Suzuki FX –
Pakistan’s first locally introduced compact car.
Available Variants Over Time:
- Mehran VX (Base Model):
Super basic – no AC, no power windows, just the essentials.
Mehran VXR (Upgraded Model):
Added comfort
- Added comfort features like air-conditioning and
improved seats.
Later Upgrades:
- In 2012, Suzuki switched to a Euro II-compliant EFI
engine, replacing the older carburetor system.
- A few visual tweaks followed – a new front grille, tail
lights, etc.
Why It Became a Favorite:
- Extremely budget-friendly; perfect for first-time
buyers.
- Very low maintenance and widely available spare parts.
- High resale value.
- Simple mechanical design made it easy to fix, even by
roadside mechanics.
End of the Road:
After 30 years, production ended in 2019.
It was phased out due to stricter emission regulations and evolving safety
standards.
The Mehran was replaced by the 660cc Suzuki Alto (8th generation).
